| Nate Komsa Earns League Title |

| Galena, Ohio -- Youngstown State sophomore Nate Komsa (Lakeshore, Ontario) became the first Penguin men's golfer since 1994 to earn medalist honors at the conference meet, winning the Horizon League Championship with a 217 as action concluded on Tuesday afternoon at the Royal American Links Golf Course. Komsa, who was in second place following the first two rounds trailing by two strokes, rallied on the final day with a 75 after posting rounds of 72 and 70 on the first day. The last men's golfer to win an individual conference title was Jim Perry who shared the Mid-Continent Conference title in 1994. On the men's side, the championship was decided in a playoff between Butler and Wright State. Wright State edged out Butler by one stroke in the playoff to earn the championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. As a team, the Penguins placed sixth out of seven teams with a score of 928. Butler and Wright State tied with an 897 prior to the playoff. Komsa's best finish this season prior to his league-meet performance was 11th at the rain-shortened Greg Palmer Morehead State Classic where only one round was completed. Butler's Jonathan Novak placed second with a 218 while two other golfers tied for third with a 220. Other YSU finishers include Ross Beal who was 21st with a 234 after final round 80, Josh Zarlenga who was 23rd with a 235 following a final round 75, Derek Knepper who was 32nd with a 248 following an 88 and Carmen DiPenti who finished 34th with a 252 and a final round 82. Youngstown State's team total of 312 was the second lowest of the final round. |

| Galena, Ohio -- After leading following the first two rounds of the Horizon League Women's Golf Championship, Youngstown State watched Loyola and Butler come from behind dropping the Penguins to a third-place finish at Royal American Links Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon. Loyola, which trailed YSU by two shots following the first 36 holes, won the event by one stroke over Butler owning a slim 1,028 to 1,029 advantage. The Penguins placed third with a 1,038 while Cleveland State came in fourth. Gina Abruzzino (Niles, Ohio), who was tied for first after two rounds, shot a 93 on Tuesday and finished fourth with a 252. Butler's Lynnsey Showers won the event with a 239 firing a final round 80 in tough conditions. On a tough scoring day, Showers and Cleveland State's Kristen Obush, who placed second, were the only two individuals to shot below 85. Other finishers for YSU including Lori Hatcher who tied for sixth place with a 260 after a 92 on Tuesday. Freshman Megan Bricker who was 10th with a 265, including a 95 on Tuesday, Bonnie Sherman placed 13th with a 271 following a 97 and Jennie Fleiner placed 15th with a 277 after carding the best YSU round of the day with an 87. For their efforts during the tournament, Abruzzino and Hatcher were named to the all-tournament team. The duo was also named first-team All-Horizon League and Abruzzino was the league's Co-Golfer of the Year joining CSU's Kristen Obush. |
| Penguins Hold Two-Stroke Advantage After 36 |

| Galena, Ohio -- The Youngstown State women's golf team owns a two-stroke lead over Loyola and a nine-stroke advantage over Butler after the first two rounds of the Horizon League Women's Golf Championships at the Royal American Links. The Penguins, the 2003 winners of the league meet, own a score of 671 (337-334) following the first 36 holes, just ahead of Loyola (673) and Butler (680). YSU owned a four-stroke lead following the first round of play. YSU junior Gina Abruzzino (Niles, Ohio) is tied for first with Butler's Lynnsey Showers. Both individuals lead the field with 159's. Abruzzino shot a 79 during the first round and an 80 for the second round. Other Penguins include defending league champion Lori Hatcher who is tied for seventh with a 168 (83-85), freshman Megan Bricker who is ninth with a 170 (85-85), freshman Bonnie Sherman who is 10th with a 174 (90-84) and Jennie Fleiner who is 16th with a 190 (97-93). Bricker has had a busy past three days. On Saturday and Sunday, she played for the Penguins softball team at Loyola and helped contribute to two YSU wins over the Ramblers. The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday at the Royal American Links course. |

| Galena, Ohio -- Youngstown State sophomore men's golfer Nate Komsa shot rounds of 72 and 70 on the first day of competition at the Horizon League Championships at Royal American Lakes Golf Course and is in second place with 18 holes remaining on Tuesday. Komsa's 142 is just two shots behind Butler's Jonathan Novak who had a 140 (71-69). Komsa led the meet after the first nine holes and was fifth through 18. As a team, the Penguins are sixth out of seven schools with a 616 (312-304). Butler has grabbed the lead with a 584, just one stroke ahead of Wright State. Other Penguin performers include Ross Beal who is tied for 21st with a 154 (79-75), Josh Zarlenga who is tied for 30th with a 160 (78-82) along with teammate Derek Knepper (83-77) and Carmen DiPenti rounds out the lineup placing 34th with a 170 (86-84). |

| Indianapolis, Ind. -- For the second time in the past three weeks, YSU junior women's golfer Gina Abruzzino (Niles, Ohio) was named the Horizon League Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Abruzzino finished 23rd out of 85 competitors at the Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonel Classic which concluded on Saturday. |

| Fairborn, Ohio -- Sophomore Nate Komsa continued his impressive spring season at the Bullock Classic over the weekend. Komsa was YSU's top finisher placing tied for 17th with a three-round score of 233 (78-80-75). Cleveland State golfer Billy Houle won the event with a score of 215 (70-71-74). As a team, the Penguins placed 12th out of 15 teams. YSU's cumulative score was 956 (319-320-317), which was only seven strokes behind 11th-place Longwood. Eastern Kentucky University won the tournament with a score of 898, while host Wright State took second with 923. The Penguins will wrap up the season next weekend at the Horizon League Championships in Columbus, Ohio. |

| Richmond, Ky. -- Youngstown State women's golfer Gina Abruzzino finished 23rd out of 85 competitors at the Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonel Classic which concluded on Saturday afternoon. Abruzzino carded a three-round score of 242 (79-83-80) to lead the Penguins. As a team, YSU scored a 1,014 total with rounds of 337, 334 and 343. Murray State won the event with a 919 taking the title by 23 strokes over Tennessee Tech. Other finishers for the Penguins were Lori Hatcher who was 54th with a 255 (83-80-92), Bonnie Sherman who was 61st with a 257 (87-83-87), Jennie Fleiner who finished 72nd with a 265 (88-88-89) and Megan Bricker who was 75th with a 268 (89-92-87). Youngstown State is next in action on Sunday, April 25 at the Horizon League Championships when the Penguins will try to defend their 2003 title. This year's championships are set to be held in Columbus, Ohio. |

| Morehead, Ky. -- The Youngstown State men's golf team tied for 10th out of 12 schools at the rain-shortened Greg Palmer Eagle Classic hosted by Morehead State at Eagle Trace Golf Course. The participants were able to get one round in on Monday, before rain forced the cancellation of play later in the day and on Tuesday. The Penguins finished with a one-round score of 324 tying fellow Horizon League school Loyola for 10th. Morehead State and Murray State tied for the top spot with 298's. Five Horizon League schools participated in the meet. Leading the way for YSU was Nate Komsa who placed 11th with a 76. Komsa had the third-lowest round among Horizon League performers for the first 18 holes. Placing 34th was Derek Knepper with an 80, finishing 49th was Josh Zarlenga who carded an 83, Lou Nicholson finished 55th with an 85 and Jim Powers was 63rd with an 87. The Penguins return to action on Sunday at the Buick Collegiate Classic in Dayton, Ohio, hosted by Wright State. |

| Portage, Mich. -- The Youngstown State women's golf team placed eighth at the nine-team Bronco Invitational, which concluded on Monday at The Moors Golf Club. The host Broncos won the event with a two-round final score of 623 while the Penguins carded a team score of 685 (339-346). YSU was led by Lori Hatcher who placed 26th with a 168 (85-83). Other finishers for the Penguins included Gina Abruzzino who finished 29th carding a 169 (83-86), Jennie Fleiner who was 32nd with a 170 (82-88), Bonnie Sherman placed 47th with a 178 (89-89) and Erin Odell was 56th with a 193 (98-95). YSU was the only Horizon League team to compete in the meet and finished just four strokes behind Bowling Green for the seventh spot. The Penguins return to action on April 15 at the EKU Lady Colonel Classic. |
